The Avalon Walnut Creek Master Plan creates an 18 acre transit-oriented development around the existing BART Station in Pleasant Hill, California. The project includes large amounts of office, residential, and retail space – and manages to accommodate a very substantial parking load. A grand civic square adjacent to the station connects to the regional Iron Horse Trail via an elegant boulevard lined with townhomes. A vibrant mainstreet connects the square to the highly travelled Treat Boulevard to the south. Finally, a small street slides under the tracks to connect the square to the northern half of the site, allowing better permeability and knitting the site together. Jeff’s role as Project Manager focused primarily on coordinating a talented charrette design team that included Peter Katz, Bill Lennertz and Seth Harry. Jeff undertook this work while at Lennertz Coyle and Associates.
