We were appointed to design six large terrace houses adjacent to the historic St. Paul’s Church in Beaconsfield. These terrace houses were to be used for social housing and incorporate several semi-separate living areas to suit a range of potentially unrelated tenants. Parking is partially shared with the church and part underground. A wide sequence of landscaped terraces and a raised promenade provides a generous interface with the church, allowing north-facing semi private space for the tenants. The buildings are designed in a contemporary manner but use materials and forms found on the church buildings and throughout the area to make them ‘fit’ into the surrounding urban fabric. All buildings achieve excellent thermal efficiency, ranging from 8 to 10 stars.
